The Story of HJEM -
A City Called Home

Problem

Modern cities have become efficient but emotionally distant.
We’ve learned to move fast, but not to feel at home.
Concrete surrounds us, yet connection feels rare.
People spend hours commuting between towering buildings,
their days measured in deadlines instead of daylight.

We optimized for productivity and forgot the poetry of living.

Vision

HJEM is a new way of thinking about urban life;a city where nature is not an escape, but a neighbor.

Instead of reaching higher, we grow wider, spreading communities into the landscape,
letting people live closer to light, air, and one another.

Here, children play on green paths, shops bloom every fifteen minutes of walking,
and time slows just enough for a deep breath.

It’s not a utopia, it’s a return to balance.

Inspiration

Inspired by Nordic simplicity and human warmth,
HJEM blends technology with tenderness.
Wood and water shape its rhythm,
sunlight and wind power its life.
Each home, each street, each canal reminds us:
progress doesn’t have to mean distance.

Because in the end, a city is not made of buildings, it’s made of belonging.

Design Approach

Designing HJEM was an attempt to translate belonging into form to make the feeling of home visible.
Every line, color, and texture echoes the balance between people and nature.
We followed the rhythm of Nordic simplicity: clarity without coldness, structure touched by warmth.

Geometry provides calm order, while organic textures bring life.
The color palette draws from the landscape, misty blues, moss greens, pale woods, and the soft amber of morning light.
Nothing seeks attention; everything seeks harmony.

Like a walk through the city, the design flows slowly, open, quiet, human.
A place where technology feels natural, and simplicity feels alive.

HJEM App — The City in Your Hands

Health & Safety

The HJEM App is designed to care for citizens’ well-being as much as for their mobility.
Through a simple and intuitive interface, residents can:

  • Book and manage medical appointments.

  • Receive reminders for upcoming consultations.

  • Keep health cards and prescriptions digitally stored.

  • Use the SOS button in emergencies to call immediate assistance.

Community & Sustainability

Beyond movement, HJEM is about connection — between people and their environment.
The app also helps citizens:

  • Join local initiatives and neighborhood groups.

  • Track their own sustainability goals.

  • Discover cultural and volunteering events around the city.

Mobility & HAVN Pass Integration

Moving through HJEM is effortless.
The app integrates directly with the HAVN Card, allowing users to:

  • Check card balance and travel history.

  • Recharge the card or buy daily passes.

  • Access updated routes for metro, ferry, and bike-sharing.

HAVN Card — The Physical Link

A tangible connection to the city — designed for everyone.

While the app brings together digital services, the HAVN Card ensures inclusion for everyone —
from elderly residents and children to tourists exploring HJEM for the first time.

  • White Card: Monthly pass for residents and regular commuters.

  • Green Card: Flexible daily pass for visitors, rechargeable with single trips or day credits.

Design Insight

The HAVN system extends HJEM’s core idea: that technology should make urban life feel simple, human, and safe.
Together, the app and the card form a seamless bridge between the digital and the physical city —
reminding citizens that “Home is wherever you connect.”

UI & Design Process — HJEM App and HAVN Card

Concept

The HJEM app was designed as the emotional and functional heart of the city — a bridge between citizens, nature, and technology.
It connects essential services like transport, healthcare, and community participation in one intuitive ecosystem.

Design Atmosphere — where philosophy meets interface

We avoided the cold, overly technical look often associated with smart cities.
Instead, we embraced a Nordic-futuristic style: calm, clean, and minimal — yet warm, organic, and human.
Natural tones (fjord green and mist white) balance innovation with comfort, reflecting HJEM’s identity as “a city called home.”

Color system

Fjord Green (#4B6354)

Dark mode base, representing balance, nature, and sustainability.

Keywords

Mist White (#F2EFEA)

Light mode background, open and bright, inspired by Nordic daylight.

Earth Brown (#7C6F62)

Accent color for buttons and icons, giving a grounded, tactile feeling.

Community

Nature

Connection

These three words define the essence of HAVN.
A system designed to bring people together, encourage inclusion, and foster a balanced relationship between technology and the natural flow of everyday life.

Conclusion

HJEM is more than a concept — it’s an invitation to rethink how we live, connect, and care.
From the city to the app, and from the app to the card, every element is designed to bring people closer — to each other, to their community, and to nature.
It’s a vision of modern life where technology serves humanity, not the other way around.
A reminder that home is not a place, but a feeling — built through empathy, design, and connection.
